Brit of the Week

Lloyd Glasspool entered the ITF event in Iowa and was seeded sixth. The first round saw the Brit against American Roy Smith. In the first set the American was toe to toe with the Brit and as neither could be separated a tiebreak followed. Glasspool got a great start in the breaker, keeping ahead to take the set. In the second set the seed dominated with Smith barely getting a look in. Glasspool progressed 7-6(4), 6-2.

In the second round Glasspool was up against another American, this time Danny Thomas. The match was a very tight affair and there was nothing to differentiate the pair. Fighting hard Thomas forced a tiebreak in both sets. It was the Brit that was to come through taking both tiebreaks moving to the next round 7-6(5), 7-6(3).

The quarter-final saw the Brit against Nick Chappell. The Brit got first blood grabbing the break of serve in the first set and taking the lead. The American tried to pull back in the second set and forced a tiebreak. Once again Glasspool was in supreme form in the tiebreak progressing to the semi-final in straight sets 6-4, 7-6(3).

In the semi-final the sixth seed was up against Alexander Brown. The American got off to a great start, and managed to get a break of serve on the Brit. Glasspool soon found himself down a set. The Brit re-grouped nicely in the second set, and broke Brown to level the match. In the deciding set it was all one way traffic as the seed totally dominated and lost only one game to move into the final 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The final saw Glasspool against the top seed Evgeny Karlovskiy. In a very hard fought match the sixth seed forced tiebreaks in both sets. The Russian was unable to stay with the Brit in the breakers and Glasspool dominated both. Taking the title 7-6(2), 7-6(1).
