Preview: Katie Boulter v Kristyna Pliskova | H2H: First Meeting

Katie Boulter arrives in Miami looking for the form that saw her only back-to-back wins at the start of the season before a run of four straight losses. Kristyna Pliskova has yet to pick up any main-draw win this season.

H2H: Katie Boulter (WR 319) Kristyna Pliskova (WR 78)
Tournament Previous Best R1 (2018) R3 (2016)
1st Serve Return Points Won % 28.1 33.4
Return Points Won % 36.3 36.6
Break Point Conversion % 60 52.5
Break Points Saved % 50 57.5
Total Points Won % 49.2 46.9

Boulter might need to sharpen up her return game from the big-serving Pliskova but has been sharper at taking her break points chances. She has, however, been less good at holding on to her own serve when put under pressure.

Playing Styles

It can be easy to fall into the trap of assuming twins are mirror images of each other but Kristyna Pliskova actually plays a little differently to her more successful sister. She is gradually making her way back up the rankings and tends to work for her points more and is blessed with a decent serve.

So it might be that Boulter will be more the more aggressive player, also with a decent serve, but we have seen she tends to search for her forehand as a preferred shot, and if it starts to breakdown, it can all become a bit hit and miss.

Neither have had the most consistent start to the season, with perhaps Boulter starting the better of the two. She could well pull off the surprise, but it is most likely going to be a battle.

Prediction: Boulter in three sets.
