Lauren Davis v Ashleigh Barty | Barty leads H2H 1-0
After a sticky start in her opening match, where Ashleigh Barty was trounced in the first set by Zarina Diyas, she rallied well to come back comfortably but even though she has a win over Lauren Davis back in the past at Acapulco, it has been a while since she came up against the feisty American.
If he form is still coming to her, Davis could be an equally troublesome encounter – She has proved to be a thorn in the side of many a player – she took Simona Halep to an epic final set in Australia ending 15-13 in the favour of the current Wimbledon champion, and most recently she took out a struggling Angelique Kerber in the second round of Wimbledon, and with a home crowd behind her, she will be a force to be reckoned with.
Barty has the experience, variety and capability to deal with both the crowd and Davis’ tenacity on court. What the American lacks in height, she more than makes up for in speed, stamina and her speed around the court. Barty may still have her hands full but you would expect the reigning Roland Garros champion to come through.
Prediction: Barty in three sets.
Elina Svitolina v Venus Williams | Svitolina leads H2H 2-1
Venus Williams showed in her speedy push through the first round that she has no intentions of going anywhere soon, as she looks to even up the head to head over Elina Svitolina – still in search of that elusive major.
The last time the pair met was on the clay at Roland Garros, and Williams comes in with some good hard court form behind her, having reached the quarter-finals of Cincinnati. Svitolina started the year at the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, but perhaps suffered from a walkover in the second round and came up undercooked in the third round of Roland Garros. She went out in the semi-final of Wimbledon and has hit the fourth round of the US Open – and if she can stop Williams’ resurgent summer she could stand a chance of getting a lot deeper in the second week.
Their matches have never gone the distance but this could be the one that tries them both.
Prediction: Svitolina in three sets.

Borna Coric v Grigor Dimitrov | First meeting
Certainly Dimitrov was marked out as a player with all the promise to make it to the majors, and has two Slam semi-final runs to his name, but has never quite been able to make the next step.
Coric was dogged with injury very early in his career and has been a steady presence towards the higher end of the rankings but has yet to make that extra jump, although he is defending fourth round points here.
On the flip side, anything from this point is an improvement on last year’s first round exit for Dimitrov, who is looking for his first back to back win since the French Open.
Prediction: Coric in four sets
