Daniil Medvedev v Grigor Dimitrov | H2H tied at 1-1
A first ever Grand Slam final awaits for the winner of this high stakes match. Daniil Medvedev has been the best player of the hard court summer and he is looking to reach a fourth final in as many events. The Russian was far too solid for Stan Wawrinka, who seemed to have no answer to Medvedev’s watertight game. The victory also meant that the 23-year-old has booked his spot at the ATP Finals, which is mightily impressive to do so this early.
Grigor Dimitrov‘s confidence will be sky high right now as he is fresh off the back of (by far) the biggest victory of his career. The 28-year-old shocked the tennis world as he defeated five-time champion, Roger Federer, in five electrifying sets. This tournament alone might have saved Dimitrov’s season – he is guaranteed to climb at least 53 rankings spots.
The pair have faced off twice before, both in 2017. The Bulgarian was victorious on the grass of the Queen’s Club, but Medvedev won their only hard court meeting in Washington a few weeks later. A lot has changed since then and their head-to-head should not hold too much bearing on who will triumph. We know what level the Russian will bring as he has bought it out time and time again recently. Dimitrov will have to play a sublime match and use his full repertoire of shots, but that still might not be enough.
Prediction: Medvedev in four sets.

Matteo Berrettini v Rafael Nadal | First meeting
A man featuring in his maiden Grand Slam semifinal faces the ultimate challenge, facing someone in his thirty-third. Before the tournament, Matteo Berrettini had never recorded a main draw victory at the US Open. He has now won five to break new ground in his promising career. The Italian held his nerve to defeat Gael Monfils in an epic fifth set tiebreaker which had the New York crowd on their feet.
For just the second time in his career, after 2008, Rafael Nadal has reached the last four of each Grand Slam in a season. That year he won two of the big trophies and the Spaniard is looking for his second of 2019. The 33-year-old has dropped just the one set and that was to Marin Cilic, the former champion. Apart from that, he has been in a league of his own and remains the overwhelming favourite – Nadal is the only player left who has featured in a Grand Slam final.
Although this is their first meeting, you can see how their match would unfold. Berrrettini would need to redline his game for three sets and could still end up losing in straights. Nadal has been in this position countless times in his career and if he plays at a solid level, he will reach a fifth US Open final.
Prediction: Nadal in straight sets.
The semi-finals take place from 4pm (9pm BST)
