Harriet Dart [Q] v Ana Bogdan [Q] | First Meeting
In perhaps one of the more evenly match-ups for the Brits in New York, Harriet Dart’s fighting spirit carried her through to a tough final round in Qualifying to book a spot in the main draw of the US Open for the first time in her career.
The feisty Dart made the most of a Wimbledon wildcard to make it to the third round of Wimbledon, so she knows she does have the game to play on the biggest stages, but both she and Ana Bogdan put in the hours on the ITF circuit prior to heading to Flushing Meadows, and there is very little to separate them on form, and just seven places between them in the rankings.
Dart can prove to be a thorn in players side, and during qualies she has played a lot more consistently. She can pepper the lines with her groundstrokes and is capable of generating a lot of pace, hitting with depth and precision that can overwhelm until a player figures all that out.
She will face much of the same as the Romanian also enjoys accelerating the ball. Dart is just a little further ahead in the rankings and might just have a little more play in her legs than Bogdan, who has made the second round twice in New York.
