TORONTO, CANADA – Joe Salisbury & Rajeev Ram claimed first ATP Masters 1000 title. The Brit/American were third seeds and defeated the top seeds in the final.

Joe Salisbury & Rajeev Ram entered the ATP Masters event in Toronto. The Brit/American pair had a first round bye as third seeds.

In the second round the Brit/American were drawn against Andrey Golubev & Andreas Mies. The Kazakh/German pair tried to stay with Salisbury & Ram in the first set. However, the third seeds managed to secure the break of serve and move into the lead. The second set saw the seeds dominate Golubev & Mies to move into the next round 6-3, 6-2.

The quarter-final saw the Brit/American against the eighth seeds Ivan Dodig & Rohan Bopanna. The Croatian/Indian pair got off to the better start. Dodig & Bopanna broke serve of the third seeds and managed to hold on to take the lead. However, Salisbury & Ram re-grouped in the second set and broke the eighth seeds serve to level the match. In the ensuing match tiebreak, it was the third seeds that controlled the breaker. The Brit/American moved into the semi-final 4-6, 6-3, 10-4.

In the semi-final Salisbury & Ram took on unseeded Belgian pair Sander Gillé & Joran Vliegen. The third seeds took full control of the first set, breaking the Belgians to take the lead. In the second set the Belgians tried to fight back. Salisbury & Ram however, were not to be beaten and managed to break right at the end of the set to take the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.

The final pitched Salisbury & Ram against the top seeds Nikola Mektić & Mate Pavić. The Croatian pair had taken the last Masters final where they played each other, the Italian Open in straight sets. The third seeds were on top form in the first set. Salisbury & Ram broke serve of the top seeds and took the first set. The Croatians regrouped in the second set, and started playing better. The top seeds managed to break serve of the Brit/American to level up the match. A match tiebreak would decide the champions. Salisbury & Ram totally dominated the breaker to take the first Masters 1000 title together 6-3, 4-6, 10-3.

Cameron Norrie with Alex De Minaur were defeated by Dušan Lajović & Aslan Karatsev in the first round in Toronto 6-4, 6-7(7), 10-8.

Emily Webley-Smith with Beatrice Gumulya were defeated by Carol Zhou & Melodie Collard in the first round in Montreal 6-2, 6-3.

Harriet Dart with Anett Kontaveit were defeated by Karolína Plíšková & Karolína Muchová in the first round in Montreal 6-2, 6-2.

Heather Watson with Oksana Kalashnikova were defeated by Bernarda Pera & Magda Linette in the first round in Montreal 6-0, 6-0.

Dan Evans & Neal Skupski were defeated by Nikola Mektić & Mate Pavić in the second round in Toronto 3-6, 7-5, 13-11.

Tara Moore with Emina Bektas were defeated by Luisa Stefani & Gabriela Dabrowski in the second round in Montreal 7-5, 6-2.

Jonny O’Mara & Lloyd Glasspool were defeated by Oscar Jose Gutierrez & Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo in the first round in San Marino 6-3, 3-6, 10-7.

George Loffhagen with Robert Strombachs were defeated by Gilbert Klier Junior & Igor Marcondes in the first round in Gdyna 6-3, 7-6(3).

Tom Hands & Harry Wendleken were defeated by Alexis Canter & Jack Pinnington Jones in the first round in Gdyna 6-4, 7-6(2), 10-7.

Alexis Canter & Jack Pinnington Jones were defeated by Michal Mikula & Yann Wojcik in the quarter-final in Gdyna 6-4, 6-3.

Arthur Fery & Luke Johnson defeated Michal Mikula & Yann Wojcik in the final in Gdyna 6-3, 6-1.

Louis Allen with Luis Farla were defeated by Boris Pokotilov & Ilya Snitari in the first round in Curtea De Arges 6-2, 6-2.

Toby Martin with Bogdan Borza were defeated by Vladimir Filip & Dragos Nicolae Madaras in the first round in Curtea De Arges 6-0, 3-6, 10-2.

Samantha Murray Sharan with Valeria Savinykh were defeated by Hanna Chang & Alexa Glatch in the final in Landisville 7-6(3), 3-6, 11-9.

Freya Christie with Yuriko Lily Miyazaki were defeated by Carolina Alves & Iryna Shymanovich in the quarter-final in Radom 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.

Next week Brits play in Cincinnati, Verona, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Romania, Holland, Austria, Slovakia, Tunisia & Spain.
