Brit of the Week

Stuart Parker entered the ITF event and was unseeded. The Brit drew Thijmen Loof in the first round. The Dutch player had a wildcard into the tournament. Parker and Loof stayed toe to toe, but eventually the Brit got the better of the 18 year old, breaking serve to take the lead. In the second set Parker dominated the Dutchman, taking the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.

The second round saw Parker against the sixth seed Simon Carr. The Irishman although seeded was no match for the Brit. Parker continued the form from the first round match, breaking Carr in each set to take the lead and the match 6-3, 6-3.

In the quarter-final the Brit was against Argentine Matías Franco Descotte. The first set was close, but eventually Parker managed to make the breakthrough and get ahead. The Argentine tried to fight back, but was unable to get the break back. The second set was much the same as the Brit powered ahead breaking the Argentine and booking a spot in the semi-final in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

The semi-final pitched Parker against the eighth seed Alexander Shevchenko. The Russian managed to break serve in the first set to take the lead. Parker managed to stay on terms in the second set, forcing a tiebreak. Unfortunately, Shevchenko was too strong in the tiebreak as Parker only managed to get one point on the board. The Russian moved into the final 6-4, 7-6(1).
