Brit of the Week

Ryan Peniston entered the ITF event in Greece and was the eighth seed. In the first round the Brit was against Sahar Simon. The Israeli had made the draw as a lucky loser. Unfortunately for Simon his luck ran out against Peniston. The Brit dominated the first set and didn’t drop a game. In the second set, the Israeli managed to get a couple of games on the board, but Peniston was still in fine form and moved into the second round 6-0, 6-2.

The second round saw Peniston against Artem Dubrivnyy. The Russian found the Brit too strong and although managed to hold serve a couple of times in the first set, Peniston took the lead. In the second set the seed was again just too good and dominated. Peniston lost only one game to move into the quarter-final 6-2, 6-1.

In the quarter-final Peniston was against second seed Corentin Denolly. The Frenchman stayed toe to toe with the Brit in the first set, forcing a tiebreak. Peniston managed to edge ahead to move one step closer to the semi-final. In the second set, the Brit was once again dominating play. However, it was clear that there was an issue as Denolly conceded to hand the semi-final place to Peniston 7-6(7), 3-0 (RET).

The semi-final saw the Brit against Evan Furness. Despite his best efforts Peniston was outplayed by Furness. The Frenchman dominated the seed, who struggled to hold serve. Peniston did everything he could but was unable to get back on terms. Furness moved into the final 6-2, 6-2.
