CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS, USA – Paul Jubb entered the ITF event as was the eighth seed. The Brit made the quarter-final before succumbing to a defeat.

Brit of the Week

Paul Jubb entered the ITF event in Illinois and was the eighth seed. The Brit was drawn against Australian Rinky Hijikata. The first set was very close, with Jubb digging deep. A tiebreak ensued as both fought hard to try and get the lead. The Brit edged ahead in the tiebreak to secure the first set. The second was also very close, however Jubb managed to secure the break of serve needed to move into the second round 7-6(5), 7-5.

In the second round Jubb was against Peter Bertran. The Dominican pushed the Brit hard in the first set, forcing a tiebreak. Bertran dominated the breaker and secured the first set. In the second set, Jubb fought back. The Brit dominated from start to finish and lost only one game to level the match. The final set saw Jubb secure the break of serve needed to move into the next round 6-7(3), 6-1, 6-3.

The quarter-final saw Jubb against American wild card Ben Shelton. The unseeded player had knocked out the third seed in the first round. Shelton dominated the match from the off. The Brit struggled to hold serve as the American was in complete control. Shelton took the match in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Shelton went on to knock out the top seed in the semi-final to make the final of the event.

Challenger & ITF Round Up

Aidan McHugh was defeated by Jason Kubler in the second round in Lexington 6-4, 6-4.

Julian Cash was defeated by Alexandar Lazarov in the second round in Telavi 6-3, 6-3.

Ben Jones was defeated by Roy Smith in the first round in Castelo Branco 6-1, 6-4.

Evan Hoyt was defeated by Garrett Johns in the first round in Castelo Branco 6-4, 6-3.

Alexis Canter was defeated by Andres Andrade in the first round in Portoviejo 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

George Loffhagen was defeated by Simon Yitbarek in the first round in Vejle 6-3, 6-2.

Charles Broom was defeated by Filip Misolic in the first round in Novi Sad 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Alice Gillan was defeated by Mariana Drazic in the second round in Monastir 6-3, 6-3.

Emilie Lindh was defeated by Emily Seibold in the quarter-final in Savitaipale 4-0 (RET).

Next week Brits play in Washington, Ecuador, USA, Germany, Romania, Poland, Spain, Denmark, Estonia, Serbia, Georgia, Tunisia, San Jose, Cluj, Concord & Italy.
