Dan Evans v Yoshihito Nishioka | Nishioka leads H2H 1-0

The new British No.2 Dan Evans posted yet another good week in the books as he reached the quarterfinal stage in last week’s Atlanta Open. A barrage of big serves from Reilly Opelka proved too much for Evans to handle as he crashed out in three tight sets.

Evans’ levels of confidence must be through the roof right now and his no-fear attitude seems to be carrying him in very good stead. On top of all the victories lately, the 29-year-old has just become the Britsh No.2 after last week’s exploits. Out of the 30 hard court matches he has competed in this year, Evans has won 21 of them and he is looking tougher to beat every week.

His opponent, Nishioka is a scrappy competitor and is currently in a tough patch of form. The Japanese No.2 will be playing his first non-Slam tournament since May – and he only played three matches in those two Slams so there will clearly be rust. Since Indian Wells, Nishioka is 4-7 and he has lost more matches than he has won this season.

The pair have met once before on the tour, also on the hard courts of America. In 2016, Nishioka defeated Evans in a gruelling three set battle that required a final set tiebreaker. However, the difference in this match may be the levels of confidence, something that Evans certainly has plenty of. The winner of this meeting will get in in-form David Goffin.

Prediction: Evans in two sets

Evans and Nishioka are scheduled on John Harris Court at 1pm (6pm BST).
