Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (2021 – Grass)

H2H: Dan Evans (WR 25) Matteo Berrettini (WR 9)
Tournament Previous Best R2 (2014) Debut
1st Serve % 61.2 69.5
Service Games Won % 95.2 90.5
Break Points Saved % 90.9 77.8
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 56.4 52.5
Break Points Converted % 57.1 33.3

Berrettini was serving bombs against Murray and it is not surprising he leads this stat but Evans might lack the power, but has the accuracy and across the rest of the key stats, he leads the Italian

Playing Styles & Prediction

Evans did actually face a test against Adrian Mannarino, just edging the tie-break second set, and this could be more of the same for the British No. 1. Berrettini was very impressive against Murray – demonstrating that despite being such a big unit, he is a force to be reckoned with on the green stuff.

Evans has a little more guile and will need to use all his trademark variety to outwit Berrettini, and this could well go the distance. If the Brit can just get on the end of these Berrettini bombs, then the longer he can stretch the rallies, the better his chances come. Berrettini will not be able to rely on testing his movement.

Prediction: Berrettini in three sets

Tale of the Tape – Key Stats (2021)

H2H: Cameron Norrie (WR 41) Jack Draper (WR 309)
Tournament Previous Best R1 (2017-2019) Qualies (2019)
1st Serve % 65.8 62.6
Service Games Won % 78.8 80
Break Points Saved % 63.4 53.8
2nd Serve Return Points Won % 51.9 52.8
Break Points Converted % 43.1 41.7

Draper can more than hold his own, as he has proved this week, and has done very well to hold his serves and punish any lacklustre second serves – areas where he betters Norrie. But Norrie has worked on his serving, and it has showed, and Draper could well be running out of steam.

Playing Styles & Prediction

Draper has a sound all round game, with solid groundstrokes, and plenty of pace, and will look to take the upper hand in rallies. He took the fight to a rusty Norrie at the Battle of the Brits last year, pushed him close and got the win.

However, the youngster is up against one of the fittest players on the tour who has stamina to spare, and Norrie’s experience to boot will stand him in far better stead.

For both players, this is a landmark tournament, but Norrie has just been superbly consistent throughout this season, and while they will both put on a great show, you have to go with time on tour to be the factor here.

Prediction: Norrie in straight sets.
