Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares [2] def. Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau 6-3, 6-3

Second seeds Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares continued their good form on Thursday to reach the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell semi-finals for the first time as a team, defeating Dutch-Romanian duo Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau 6-3, 6-3.

The British/Brazilian pair made 77% of their first serves, winning 76% of those points to cruise through their service games. The veteran team did not face a break point in the match, breaking Rojer and Tecau on all four of their opportunities.

Murray and Soares will be playing in their second consecutive semi-final and while the pair has yet to win a clay court tournament together, Soares did win the Barcelona title with former partner Alexander Peya in 2013.

Looking ahead to the whole of the clay court season, after starting the season in Marrakech with former partner John Peers, before reuniting with Soares for Monte Caro and onwards, Murray said:

“We’re probably feeling a lot better than we did after Miami. We played a lot of good tennis last week. We played two really great matches here against teams that will be trying to qualify for the World Tour Finals at the end of the year so we’re feeling good and will continue to work hard.”

Next up for Murray and Soares on Saturday is the South African-British pair, Raven Klaausen and Joe Salisbury who took out the No. 4 seeds, Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic 7-6(8), 7-6(4).

Play continues at ATP Barcelona at 11am (10 am BST)
