Dan Evans v Jason Jung | Evans leads H2H 1-0

Dan Evans looks to continue his run of good form as he swaps his favoured grass for the hard courts of North America. The British no.2 will face Taiwanese qualifier, Jason Jung, in the opening round of Atlanta.

Jung has already got two match wins under his belt this week as he defeated Alex Bolt and Donald Young (without dropping a set) to reach the main draw. The 30-year-old is currently ranked 138 in the ATP rankings and has never cracked the top 100. In May this year, Jung won the Gwangju Open to claim the fourth Challenger title of his career, but he is 3-5 since then.

Evans has been playing some inspired tennis of late which saw him go an impressive 14-3 during the grass court season – picking up titles in Surbiton and Nottingham. The world no.55 has already won 41 matches this year, edging him closer to his previous best of 51 which he achieved back in 2015. A good run here in Atlanta could see Evans surpass his career high ranking of 41.

The pair have met just once before and that was also on North American hard courts. Evans was victorious and won by a convincing 6-4, 6-4 scoreline when they played at the Indian Wells Challenger earlier this year.

Although the courts in the Californian desert play much slower than the ones in Atlanta, you should expect a similar outcome. Evans thrives on the faster surfaces and his crafty yet aggressive game might prove too hot to handle for Jung.

Prediction: Evans in two sets.

Evans and Jung are scheduled second on Grandstand, not before 12:30pm (5:30pm BST).
