STUTTGART, GERMANY – In quite an eventful week in Stuttgart, there was one further surprise Porsche were unveiled as the new title sponsor for the season ending Finale.


Porsche Race to Singapore

The WTA and Porsche announced that they have entered into a multi-year global agreement, with Porsche as the official and exclusive partner of the WTA, and the new title partner of the ‘Porsche Race to Singapore’ – the qualification leader-board for the WTA Finals.

Detlev von Platen, member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and marketing at Porsche AG joined the WTA’s CEO and Chairman Steve Simon on stage for the announcement on the morning of Finals day at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

He said, in a statement: “The title sponsorship of the Porsche Race to Singapore contributes to the internationalisation of our engagement in women’s tennis. It intensifies our successful partnership with the WTA and enriches it with a new attractive element,” he sad. “Alongside out national activities and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix’s worldwide presence, this new element provides value and visibility throughout the entire year in women’s tennis.”

‘The WTA is delighted to strengthen its long-standing relationship with Porsche,’ Steve Simon added. “Porsche has supported women’s tennis for 40 years and we look forward to now creating a global footprint for the brand’s association with the WTA.”

Gone is the former ‘Road to Singapore’ – Porsche is co-operating with the WTA as the new title partner for the “Porsche Race to Singapore” leader-board. A pit-board will feature as the campaign runs the whole season in the lead-up to the WTA Finals, which is the showpiece event of the WTA. The Eight most successful singles players and doubles pairings will close out their season incorporating the 57 tournaments on the calendar.

Each tournament represents one lap in the Porsche Race to Singapore, with its put lane board showing the lap number and the distance between the location and Singapore.

The player heading the Porsche Race to Singapore leader-board with the most points at the end of the 578th lap not only wheel-spins into the season-ending finale but will also be rewarded with a new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet.

Porsche has been engaged in women’s tennis since 1978. Initially as the title sponsor of the Porsche tennis Grand prix, and from 2002 as the organisers of the tournament. For good reason, it has been regularly been voted as the players’ favourite tournament on the WTA Tour. The regular journalists who include it on their beat are quite fond of it too!

Notable greats who grace the roll of honour include Martina Navratilova, Martina Hingis, Maria Sharapova and most recently two-time Grand Slam finalist and 2016 year-ending World No. 1 Angelique Kerber.
