DOHA, QATAR – Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares edged in the semi-final, Dominic Inglot & Florin Mergea reached the quarter-finals.



ATP Doubles Round-up

Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares were the top seeds in Doha. Taking on the unseeded pairing of Marcos Baghdatis & Marcin Matkowski, the world number one doubles team had little trouble in dispatching these opponents. Losing only four games Murray & Soares eased into the quarter finals 6-3, 6-1.

In the quarter final the Brit/Brazilian pair were up against David Marrero & Nenad Zimonjic. The top seeds found this match a little harder as they dropped the second set. The semi final spot would be decided by a match tiebreak. Murray & Soares edged this to progress 7-5, 4-6, 10-7

In the semi-final the World number one team played the French pairing of Jeremy Chardy & Fabrice Martin. The Brit/Brazilian fought hard but the French were too strong for them, edging the match in two tiebreak sets 7-6(3), 7-6(6). Chardy & Martin went on to win the event. Murray & Soares’ nearest rivals for the top spot lost in the quarter finals in Brisbane, so the doubles race is firmly on.

Andy Murray also played doubles here with Mariusz Fyrstenberg. Unfortunately they met Marrero & Zimonijc in the first round, losing in straight sets 2-6, 4-6.

Dominic Inglot has re-partnered up with Florin Mergea for this season. They last played together in 2015 before they split. Seeded fourth in Doha, they drew the Russian team of Karen Khachanov & Andrey Kuznetsov. The Brit/Romanian team lost only five games as the moved into the quarter final. 6-2, 6-3.

The quarter final is where they ran into Chardy & Martin. Inglot/Mergea took a set from the French pair before finally losing 3-6, 7-6(5), 7-10.


WTA Doubles

Jocelyn Rae & Anna Smith lost in the first round of Auckland to the fourth seeds 7-5, 6-2

Laura Robson with Marina Erakovic lost in the quarter finals to Kiki Bertens & Johanna Larsson the third seeds 3-6, 4-6.


Challengers & ITF round ups

Cameron Norrie progressed to the second round of Noumea Challenger, taking out the third seed Duckhee Lee in the first round in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Norrie also made the quarter finals of the doubles with Jose Statham before falling to the top seeds Quentin Halys & Tristan Lamasine 6-3, 6-1

Brydan Klein made the third qualifying round in the Happy Valley challenger. Taking out the seventh seed in straight sets in the second round, before losing to the second seed Alexander Bublik 6-4, 5-7, 6-7(5).

Lloyd Glasspool came through qualifying in Bankok challenger and made the second round before losing to the seventh seed 7-6(6), 4-6, 3-6.

Tara Moore lost in the ITF Hong Kong final, where she was the top seed,  6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3.

Next week, Brits play in Sydney, Hobart, Auckland & Melbourne.
