ATP Monte Carlo Results & Quick Hits

  • The woes at the top of the rankings continue – World No. 2 Novak Djokovic was another casualty of this year’s Monte Carlo Masters. David Goffin scored the biggest win of his career after edging the two-time champion, coming from 2-4 down in the deciding set. It has been an arduous week for Djokovic who had battled some very long matches already, and while Andy Murray has opted for a wildcard into Barcelona for more match practice, We do not anticipate seeing Djokovic until Madrid.
  • Albert Ramos-Vinolas proved that his up-ending of Murray was a one-off after beating Marin Cilic, who had looked pretty imperious throughout the week.
  • Also on a good run of form, Pablo Cuevas came undone at the hands of Lucas Pouille. The Frenchman had run rough-shod over the 16th seed before Cuevas fought back to level the match. Pouille came back from 3-5 down in the decider to book his place in the last four.
  • Meanwhile only one of the top seeds remains with Rafael Nadal chasing that 10th title. He ended a long day with an entertaining match against Diego Schwartzman. The Argentine will earn a spot in the Top 40 when the new rankings come out on Monday.
