  • Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares fell at the semi-final stage in Shanghai
  • Qualified for ATP World Tour Finals by reaching winning quarter-final match
SHANGHAI, CHINA – Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares progressed to the semi-final of the ATP 1000 Masters, securing a berth at the year end World Tour Finals in London.




As the fourth seeds Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares had a bye in the first round, their opponents in the second round were Kevin Anderson & Nenad Zimonjic. The South African/Serbian pair started the match well, and neither side could get ahead enough in the first set.

The experience of the fourth seeds came to the fore at the end of the set, as the Brit/Brazilian struck and got the break of serve. The second set was more straight forward for the pair as they finally managed to get a handle on the Anderson & Zimonjic service games. Murray & Soares moved into the quarter-final 7-5, 6-2.

In the quarter-final the Brit/Brazilian faced the sixth seeds Raven Klaasen & Rajeev Ram. The South African/American team were certainly no match for the Brit/Brazilian as Murray & Soares dominated the first set losing only one game.

The second set was much closer as Klaasen & Ram started to play much better. The South African/American pushed the fourth seeds to a tiebreak, Murray & Soares however, were not going to be denied and edged the tiebreak. Booking their spot in the semi-final. In doing so, Soares won his 400th tour match and the pair secured a spot at the O2 in November. 6-1. 7-6(6)

In the semi-final the fourth seeds were up against the top seeds of Henri Kontinen & John Peers. The Fin/Aussie pairing found the first set very tricky, as Murray & Soares pushed all the way to a tiebreak. The top seeds dominated the breaker however and took the lead. The second set saw the Brit/Brazilian storm back as they broke serve and levelled up the match. A final match tiebreak was needed to secure the place in the final. Unfortunately the top seeds were just too good and took the match 6-7(3), 6-3, 4-10.

Anna Smith with Nicola Melichar lost in the semi-final of Linz 3-6, 2-6

Neal Skupski with John-Patrick Smith lost in the quarter-final of Fairfield 6-7(3), 5-7

Liam Broady & Jay Clarke lost in the quarter-final of Fairfield 3-6, 3-6

Brydan Klein & Jo Salisbury lost in the quarter-final of Fairfield 6-4, 2-6, 9-11

Luke Bambridge with David O’Hare claimed the title in Fairfield 6-4, 6-2

Scott Clayton & Jonny O’Mara lost in the semi-final of Ortisei 6-7(4), 7-5, 11-13
