The Wimbledon Championships committee have announced the first tranche of wildcards for this year’s Championships with eight Brits being awarded wild-cards for the main draw, and ten further wildcards offered to Brits for the Gentlemen’s and Ladies qualifying singles rounds.
Dan Evans, who has recently returned after serving his suspension for being in possession of cocaine, just as his career was moving forward was not awarded a wildcard, but his ranking is enough from his performances to get him into the tournament’s 16-draw pre-qualifying tournament where two places will be made available to the finalists to take part in the qualifying rounds. If he gets that far, he will then have to play an additional three rounds of qualifying before the main draw starts.
