Jonny Bairstow – 6/10 – Not the most fluent of innings from Bairstow. Will be disappointed by how he got out, by hanging his bat out to give a simple catch behind.
Jason Roy – 3/10 – By his own high standards, he had a stinker. Dropped Hafeez which cost 70 runs and was out sweeping against a leg-spinner.
Joe Root – 9/10 – Profited from receiving a life when he made only nine. Always looked comfortable at the crease. Calm and collected with a superb 107 off 104 balls. Excellent back foot driving from the Yorkshireman, who remains one of England’s most consistent performers in all forms of the game.
Eoin Morgan – 6/10 – Average day as Captain. Missed a straight delivery with an attempted cut. Didn’t quite get his fielders in right spots. Could face a match ban as England not for the first time took far too long to bowl their allocated overs.
Ben Stokes – 4/10 – Quiet day for the man who starred against South Africa. A very soft dismissal saw him back in the pavilion with just 13 to his name. Never threatened with the ball, with his seven overs going for 43 runs.
Jos Buttler – 9/10 – Fastest ever World Cup century for England off 75 balls. The type of player who will win games for England during the tournament. Has the X factor appeal.
Moeen Ali – 5/10 – Still really struggling with his batting. Struggled early on to lay bat on ball. Was dropped on two and went on to make 19. Came on from the eighth over of the innings and always had Pakistan’s batsman in trouble. Ended up with very commendable figures of 3 for 50 of his ten overs.
Chris Woakes – 8/10 – England’s best player on the day. Bowled well with the new ball, getting a bit of zip. Came back well with his second spell to end up with 3 for 71. Excelled in the field by taking four catches including two blinders. Threatened to win the game for England at the death with a cameo innings of 21 off 14 deliveries.
Mark Wood – 7/10 – .Was chosen ahead of Liam Plunkett for his extra pace. Bowled well at the end with pace and variations. His wide slower balls were also used to good effect.
Jofra Archer – 6/10 – He over bowled his short ball. At times was too aggressive and expensive in his opening spell that handed the initiative to Pakistan.
Adil Rashid – 5/10 – Bowled far too short on the day. Really needs to give the ball more flight. Expensive, ended up given just five overs which went for 43 runs.

Imam-ul-Haq- 8/10 – Never really looked in trouble until tried his luck by dancing down the track to Moeen and picking out Woakes.
Fakhar Zaman – 6/10 – Steady innings of 36 before beaten by the flight of a delivery from Moeen.
Babar Azam – 8/10 – Already looks a class act for Pakistan. Played the quick ball well and was very effective with his feet to the spinners. Made 63 coming in at three to good effect to push Pakistan towards a total of over three hundred. Only blemish on the day was a chance put down when Root had made only nine.
Mohammad Hafeez – 8/10 – Profited by seventy runs from being dropped on 14 by Roy. Crucial innings for Pakistan off just 62 balls. Looking to be positive from his first delivery he faced, and it paid off.
Sarfaraz Ahmed – 8/10 – Captained the side to maximum effect. Made a very useful 55 in the middle order before being undone by a slower ball bouncer from Woakes. Impressed by his bowling changes used to good effect.
Asif Ali – 5/10 – Spilled a chance in the field, despite a maximum six never looked comfortable in the middle.
Shoaib Malik – 6/10 – Picked up a useful scalp in the shape of Stokes. Given little time to impress in the middle.
Wahab Riaz– 8/10 – Despite going for 83 from his ten overs, pick of the Pakistani attack. Bagged two wickets in successive deliveries and a fine catch to round off a successful day for the experienced Riaz.
Hassan Ali – 5/10 – Never really threatened with the ball having had 66 taken off his ten overs.
Shadab Khan – 7/10- Took the new ball and picked up the key wickets of Roy and Root. Cameo knock at the end of the Pakistan innings with a couple of boundaries in his ten runs off four deliveries.
Mohammad Amir – 7/10 – Claimed the crucial wicket of Buttler in full flow to put Pakistan on course for victory. Shared the new ball to good effect with Khan.
