MALLORCA, SPAIN – Defending champion Caroline Garcia returns to Mallorca as the preparations for Wimbledon gather pace, but the return of Victoria Azarenka is our one to watch.
Mallorca Open Draws & Results
|Order of Play|
The Russian top seed has decided to give the sun of Mallorca a try, not exactly having set Birmingham alight in her past encounters but she has but while her progress on the geen stuff has been steady but uninspiring, she did reach the quarter-finals in Wimbledon last year – her best at the Slam, and Eastbourne has been her best warm up.
With just a smattering of matches played on the stuff in her career, Sevastova took advantage of the inaugural event to make the final last year, and is back for more. However lurking in her section of the draw is wild-card Victoria Azarenka – and it will be fascinating to see how the Belarusian comes back.
 Caroline Garcia
There has been a significant change in Garcia’s demeanour. Once so hesitant to be on the big stage at her home Slam of Roland Garros, she really seemed to excel o the big stage, and returning as the defending champion should feel at home on the surface.
That being said – her skills have never quite translated to the surface when it comes to Wimbledon as the furthest she has ever got is the third round.
The home hope rests this year with the Spaniard who actually is not bad at all on grass, but this year has abandoned the British weather to head to Mallorca. Based on her form last year she ought to start the grass court season at quite a click but the conditions in Mallorca are very different to what she will experience at SW19.
The Mallorca Open takes place between 19-25June.
