- Southampton beat Vitesse to progress in the Europa League.
- Will play Danish Champions FC Midtjylland for a place in the Group Stages.
VITESSE, HOLLAND – Southampton secured their place in the Europa League play-off round after a 2-0 win away to Vitesse Arnhem on Thursday (6/8) which ensured a 5-0 aggregate victory over the Dutch club.
Goals from Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane settled the contest as the Saints marched on with ease. Their prize for progressing is a two-legged play-off against Danish champions FC Midtjylland with a place in the Europa League group stages up for grabs.
FC Midtjylland recently dropped into the Europa League following their early Champions League defeat on away goals to Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia.
Ronald Koeman‘s side will begin with home advantage at St Mary’s beginning on August 20th with the return in Denmark coming a week later, with the winner assured of going through to the group stages which begin in September.
Romanian side Astra Giurgiu, who shocked West Ham United by knocking them out and also disposed of Scottish side Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the previous round, were drawn against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar.
