WTA Miami Results & Quick Hits

  • Britain’s Johanna Konta set up a clash with Simona Halep after getting past Lara Arruabarrena in straight sets. She matches last year’s run to the quarter-final.
  • The great run of Bethanie Mattek-Sands came to an end at the hands of another come-back queen Mirjana Lucic-Baroni.
  • After a great first set, Garbiñe Muguruza retired due to illness against Caroline Wozniacki
  • Venus Williams won the battle of the tour veterans beating Svetlana Kuznetsova, who put up a flurry of defence in the second set.
  • Quarter-final action gets started with the bottom half of the draw with No. 2 seed Karolina Pliskova taking on Lucic-Baroni once more, in a rematch of their Australian Open quarter-final. The Croatian was on a dream run there and this could be a corker of a match.

ATP Miami Results and Quick Hits

  • What could have been one of the battles of the tournament turned out to be another routine looking win for Roger Federer as he handled the heavy hitting of Juan Martin Del Potro in straight sets.
  • Matching him score for score was top seed and compatriot Stan Wawrinka who eased into the fourth round.
  • There were a couple of battles of the big servers, and the newer generation were making their mark. Nick Kyrgios edged Ivo Karlovic, and Alexander Zverev merged king of the tie-breaks, getting past home hope John Isner who joined Sam Querrey on the side-lines
  • Fourth round action highlights sees Roger Federer back in action against consistent Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, with Stan Wawrinka, Rafael Nadal and Kei Nishikori all in action as well.
