WTA Indian Wells Results & Quick Hits

  • Starting at the top of the draw, Karolina Pliskova had by far the easiest route into the quarter-finals after Timea Bacsinszky retired 1-5 down in the first set. Bacsinszky had played a mammoth third round match, lasting over three hours, and had to pull out citing a left wrist injury.
  • She will face Garbiñe Muguruza, who ended a staggering 15-match winning spree from Elina Svitolina In a bit of a topsy-turvy match. After an intense first set, which the Spaniard edged, she fell way off the pace in the second set, gaining just one point on the board, before roaring through the decider.
  • The returning World No. 1 on Monday has had her best run here in after three opening losses on the bounce, but she had no answer to Elena Vesnina who took the early advantage and was able to just nudge ahead in the first set, before taking a more decisive lead in the second set.
  • Venus Williams had to mount another three set come-back to beat Peng Shuai and she carries the US hopes now after Madison Keys bowed out on her return to the tour at the hands of Caroline Wozniacki.
  • It’s a quick turnaround for the first two quarter-finals that take place on Wednesday.

ATP Indian Wells Results and Quick Hits

  • It’s official – we are heading for a Roger Federer / Rafael Nadal fourth round match-up. Both were again in commanding form, with both coming through in straight sets, but honestly not without challenges. Federer was pushed to two tight tie-break sets by Steve Johnson, while Fernando Verdasco put up a spirited resistance in the second set but not quote force a decider. It is a quick turn around as they play on Wednesday.
  • American hopes continue to fly high as Donald Young maintains his solid run here, eventually easing past Lucas Pouille in three sets.
  • Nick Kyrgios took advantage of a very bad day at the office for Alexander Zverev who claimed everything about his game had been horrible. He will face Novak Djokovic again – he of course ended Djokovic’s run in Acapulco – straight after he had weathered a storm from Juan Martin Del Potro. Will history repeat itself?
