Johanna Konta will get her first taste of tennis action at the Intercontinental World Tennis Thailand Championship at Hua Hin, in an exhibition event along with World No. 1 Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, and Jelena Ostapenko.

The four players compete in knock-out stages with the first match between Konta and Halep (6pm) followed by Pliskova and Ostapenko (8pm).

The winners will play at 8pm on Christmas Eve with the third place play-off a couple of hours earlier.

Although the tournament itself lasts just two days, the players will take part in several activities including tennis clinics for young players in the region, before enoying a Christmas party and some preparation time ahead of the start of the season.

Simona Halep of Romania receives the year-end world number one trophy at the 2017 WTA Finals tennis tournament

Halep missed out on a second chance to win a Grand Slam title when she was bettered by Ostapenko, but closed out the year as the World No. 1 finnally perhaps putting some of those demons to rest.

Pliskova also had a taste of the top spot this year, but frustratingly for her did not come close to her first major title victory this year.

Konta built on a stand-out 2016, reaching the Wimbledon semi-final, but her fortunes tailed off towards the end of the year. 2018 will see her back in action with a new coach, Michael Joyce who formerly coached Maria Sharapova.

The Intercontinental World Tennis Thailand Championship takes place on 23-24 December

Not bad – and for all the drama we have had with Halep and Konta – they are facing up to be a decent rivalry.
