Cameron Norrie claims 2nd Challenger title in two weeks.

STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA, USA  – Cameron Norrie won the ATP Challenger in California claiming back to back titles, becoming the second Brit this century to do so.

Cameron Norrie was seeded eighth in the ATP Challenger in Stockton. In continuing his run from last week, the Brit drew a wildcard in the first round. Deiton Baughman the American was no match for Norrie however, and the Brit was soon in control taking the first set and breaking Baughman. The second set was even easier for Norrie as he strolled through for the loss of just one game 6-3, 6-1.

The second round was a battle of the Brits, as Norrie was drawn against Brydan Klein. The eighth seed struggled in the first set and was broken by Klein who went on to claim the set. The second was closer as both Brits were not giving up on the set and went to a tiebreak.

Norrie dominated the tiebreak and levelled up the match. The final set the momentum was with the eighth seed and Norrie broke Klein and served the match out 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-4.

In the quarter-final there was a re-match of the final in Tiburon as the Brit took on the second seed Tennys Sandgren. Once again the Norrie came out on top as the American was unable to break serve, and the Brit was in no mood to lose to the opponent he won the title against the week before. Norrie was made to fight in the second set tiebreak, but once more the Brit defeated Sandgren in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(5).

The semi-final Norrie was drawn against Michael Mmoh seeded three. The American pushed Norrie close in the first set, and it seemed to be heading for a tiebreak until the Brit secured the break at the end. In the second set the eighth seed was much too strong for the American and raced into his second final in the space of a fortnight. 7-5, 6-2.

In the final the Brit faced Darian King seeded six. The Barbadian was unable to make any inroads into the Norrie serve during the first set, as the Brit coasted to a one set lead. The second set was slightly more edgy, however Norrie achieved the break required and took the title 6-1, 6-3.,

Norrie is the sixth Brit this century to win three or more challenger titles, behind Alex Bogdanovic, Aljaz Bedene, Kyle Edmund, Dan Evans & James Ward, and only the second this century to win back to back ATP challenger titles, with Bedene being the other back in April.
