  • Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares reach men’s doubles quarter final
  • Murray also makes the mixed doubles quarter final

Melbourne, Australia. Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares took their doubles match in straight sets against Dom Inglot & Robert Lindstedt. Murray also clinched a quarter final berth in the mixed doubles with Katarina Srebotnik also in straight sets.

Murray & Soares faced Inglot & Lindstedt in a battle of the Brits, to see who would reach the quarter finals of the Australian Open. In the first set the teams were fairly evenly matched, the only difference came down to break points where Murray & Soares got the vital break of serve to take it 6-3.

Inglot & Lindstedt were not going away easily and managed to create two break point chances, however, they were not able to convert any. The seventh seeds eventually proved too strong for the 11th seeds as Murray & Soares secured the second set 6-4. This put the Brit/Brazilian pairing into their first Grand Slam quarter final.

Murray was back on court in the mixed doubles. With Srebotnik, they are fourth seeds, and today faced Anna-Lena Groenefeld & Robert Farah. The first set was not quite as close as the scoreline suggests. Groenefeld & Farah created three break point chances, however, they were unable to convert any, whereas the fourth seeds needed only one of the two they created to take the lead 6-4.

In the second set Groenefeld & Farah finally managed to break the seeds serve, however Murray & Srebotnik were able to break twice to seal the win 6-4 and make it two quarter finals for Murray.

In the junior girls doubles,  Ema Lazic & Elena Rybakina were in first round action. They had drawn the all Spanish pairing of Cristina Bucsa & Eva Guerrero Alvarez, again this match was not as easy as the scoreline suggests. There were breaks being exchanged with a total of nine breaks of serve before Bucsa & Alvarez took the set for 6-2.

The second set went a bit like the first, only there were five service breaks. Lazic & Rybakina were not going to give this up without, although they were trying to bring the match level, eventually Busca & Alvarez were jut that little bit too strong and took the second set 6-4.

Play continues midnight GMT 26th January
